Our Block

This painting was first shown in the 2007 "Changing Face of Charleston" exhibit at the City Gallery at Waterfront Park. I want to include this in the upcoming "Uptown in Downtown Charleston" show, February 2009. I lived in the white house with red roof until I was age 7, when we moved across the street. It was a great block for me, as my relatives lived 6 of the 9 houses on the block, including my grandparents.

Peace on Earth

Here's my Christmas wish for us all - Peace on Earth! - not only among nations, but within each heart. After all, that is the reason for the season!

Gus' Store

This store was located in my neighborhood on Ashley Ave at Fishburne St. My grandmother sent me there many time to pick up grocery items for her when I was a child. My dad was good friends with Gus. One day years after my dad had passed away, I was driving down Ashley Ave and I noticed the wreath on the door, so I stopped and took a photo. Later I saw in the obituaries in the local newspaper that Gus had died. This painting is based on that photo.
