When I was really young, I rode in Mr. Ding's cab to school. Lots of other kids rode with us, so he drove around to everyone's house morning and afternoon. It gave me a great chance to learn about different areas of our city. I remember these houses on Nassau Street on Charleston's Eastside. They were across the street from the home of one of the kids in the cab, "Runky". The houses were all brown stucco back then. Recently I noticed that they are now various colors. It reminds me of "Rainbow Row" downtown in Charleston's historic district.

I'm entering this is in a Juried Exhibition coming up at Magnolia Plantation. A juried show is where the pieces on the show are selected by an "expert" for inclusion in the show. All the pieces in this show will depict a slave girl wearing a golden earring; a gold piece was recently unearthed during a recent archeological dig on the plantation.
I tried using a different recipe for skin on this, using all transparent, staining colors as opposed to the more earth-colors I have used for skin in the past. I was going for a "golden glow" here.
Wish me luck getting into the show!!
