Townes at One

11"x14" - Oil
This is our youngest grandson, Townes Hamilton Barber on the occasion of his first birthday in March. I painted this as the final independent project for my Painting I class. I really enjoyed working on capturing his likeness. Am I moving towards being a portrait artist? I feel that working in oil has burst painting wide open for me.

Portrait of Frank

18"x24" Oil on Linen

This is Frank at his favorite spot at home - on our back porch, in his Army T-shirt, with a big history book and checking out the birds at his feeders with his binoculars. All that's missing is the beer and the Cheezits. (They are next to him on the table.) This is another independent painting for my painting class. Then I'll frame it and hang it in our den. Comments welcome.

Figure in Oil

16"x20" - Oil

We had a model for the last three classes. I learned a lot about painting skin - as there was a lot of skin there to paint! This is our last class project. Next week, we bring in all our work from the semester - 4 class paintings and 3 independent projects. This was a great class. I learned quite a lot about painting in oil.

Charleston Iron Gate

11"x14" - Oil

This painting was hung Tuesday at the Charleston Artist Guild Gallery. We have to change out our art every three months, and our space rotates as well. If you're in town, come by at 160 East Bay Street and take a peek.
